Juice Associates MD leads Development of Young Talent for the Superyacht Sector
28 July 2008
Following several projects over the last two years in the burgeoning superyachts sector for companies such as Boat International Media (http://www.boatinternationalmedia.com) and Flagship Superyacht Academy (www.fsya.co.uk), John O’Sullivan, together with Andrew Cole-Bulgin, has founded the Superyacht Skills Foundation with the support of the leading companies in the sector.
‘Ultimate Crew’ (www.ultimatecrew.com), the Foundation’s six-month, paid internship programme will be launched this week.
Superyachts can offer rewarding careers, with expanded roles onboard larger yachts and promotion to senior positions. Whether people make a career onboard superyachts or take part in a gap year, the experience will prove to be highly valuable in future occupations. Beyond this, enjoyment of the work and of being part of a team provides huge satisfaction.
It has been designed to give the right people a working introduction to life onboard. As a junior crew member, interns will be expected to quickly learn the ropes and make a full contribution to the work of the crew. After internship ends they may be offered the opportunity to stay onboard as permanent crew members, Ultimate Crew will work with each student’s captain to agree the way forward.
Superyachts are the most prestigious and luxurious craft afloat, owned by some of the wealthiest people in the world. They are designed to meet the specific needs of each owner or client charter and travel to some of the most exotic and glamorous places on earth. They offer owners and guests an experience they cannot find elsewhere.
However, the yachts are nothing without their crew. The industry has recognised a need for specialised training in order that it can grow and operate in the professional manner that the industry needs. It is keen to ensure that committed, talented people who see the potential for short- or longer-term careers aboard Superyachts are available
The Superyacht Skills Foundation has created a challenging selection process to ensure it recruits the right people. Applicants will be asked to complete several stages, all designed to make sure that the job is right for them. We want people to succeed and for yachts to be better places with them onboard.
